HOUSING

Students are responsible for securing their own housing for the duration of the program, however, YSOVA will do our utmost to assist students in their search.

YSOVA is a community-supported program and as such there may be student-housing possibilities not listed publicly online. YSOVA will distribute information to accepted students about community housing options as the information becomes available.

Dawson City is a highly desirable location to live and accommodations are in high demand. However, as summer residents depart the region in September, housing becomes available for the school year. Many YSOVA students find it easiest to choose their housing once they arrive in Dawson City, taking advantage of short-term rentals (such as hotels or Bed and Breakfasts) during their search.

Shared houses or apartments, winterized cabins and long-term bed and breakfast units are among the available housing options. Rental rates are slightly higher in Dawson than in many southern communities ($700 - $1500/ per room). As with anywhere, be sure to ask landlords about any extra costs not included in rent—such as utilities or internet.

KVA Apartments

The Klondike Visitors’ Association (KVA) has partnered with YSOVA to offer their apartments as student rentals during the school year, from October 1 to April 15. There are eight spaces available, distributed through four 2-bedroom apartments.

Students must submit a rental application to the KVA. Only students who are accepted into the Foundation Year program can apply. We suggest applying early, as the rentals are allocated on a first-come first-served basis by the KVA, and spaces fill up quickly. Roommates are allocated in the fall.

Students are responsible for arranging accommodation from their arrival date until October 1st and from April 15 until their departure date.
