THE YSOVA GOVERNANCE COUNCIL

The Yukon School of Visual Arts (YSOVA) is overseen by a Governance Council composed of members from the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in (TH), the Dawson City Arts Society (DCAS), and Yukon University (YukonU).

Our Vision

Our vision is to develop and maintain a foundation year visual arts program in Dawson City that reflects the uniqueness of northern communities, cultures, and environments. The goal of this program is to provide a solid grounding in visual arts and to promote a community of artists that are reflective and adaptable.

The longer-term vision of the YSOVA Governance Council is to grow visual arts education towards a diverse range of post-secondary arts programming inclusive of Indigenous culture while critically engaging with historic structures and sites in and around Dawson City.

Our Mission

Our immediate and ongoing mission is to create a unique, culturally diverse, and integrated foundation year visual arts program that enables our students to:

  • increase their skills and knowledge as artists;

  • transfer their studies to institutions of higher learning;

  • contribute culturally to their community.
